Pressure (ciśnienie) increases (wzrasta) on Poland and Hungary to unlock (odblokować) EU Budget funds (fundusze). The EU Budget funds were previously blocked (wcześniej zablokowane) by the respective (poszczególny) countries with a veto (weto).
Three former (były) Polish presidents have urged (nalegał) for the release (wydanie) of funds, with time short before the current budget (aktualny budżet) runs out at the end of the year.
An amount of €1.1 trillion has been blocked by Warsaw and Budapest. The EU will likely seek (szukać) an alternative (alternatywny) for releasing the funds if Poland and Hungary do not comply (zastosować się).
“It would be irresponsible to further delay essential support to our citizens. We need to rapidly unlock the financial support that is so critical for many member states,” said Michael Roth, the German Minister of State. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has confirmed (potwierdzony) that Budapest will stand side by side with Poland.
